4/18 - 5/15/2016, Venice
These are my most recent work from a month residency at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venezia. The studio was a wonderful quiet place in the middle of a bustling corner of the city. I was fascinated with the seaweed that blooms in the canals and in the open lagoon. Some are natives but many came with the deluge of visiting ships. Some of the sea blooms are from the canal edges and some are imaginary compositions that articulate my experience of this great city as it struggles to survive the modern world of ecological perils.
I took a small box of liquid acrylics, watercolors, thin plexiglass sheets for monotypes and a roll of Dura-lar polyester for painting. Here are some of the finished pieces. |
